![]() | Esther is an orphan and the third born in a family of five children. The children lived with their aging grandfather after both parents died in 1995 and 1996 respectively after long illnesses from HIV/ AIDS. Prior to her death, the mother had to literally beg from one relative to the next just to get food for her children. The orphans had to rely on the old grandfather for protection and provisions. The nearby Church initially tried to help, but found it increasingly difficult to continue supporting them from its meagre collections. Esther dropped out of school due to lack of school fees. The failure to attend school increases the risk to females of early marriages and sexual exploitation. That was the way to survive because it seemed easier than begging from door to door. Esther's sorry state was referred to Mully Children's Family (MCF) through the area Chief who pleaded her case for rescue. She was then rescued along with her two sisters in 1999. At MCF she started experiencing a changed life full of hope and aspirations. She is now able to experience tender loving care and protection. She is very thankful for all she now receives and prays that MCF will survive and enable her to realize her dreams. Esther had faced an uphill task in attending school. She lacked a proper diet to enable her to concentrate in class. She dropped out at grade three and gave up hope of pursuing an education. After her rescue she was enrolled in grade three and has progressed well. She would like to some day pursue a masters degree in business administration. |
