Esther Muatha Esther is the only child born to a family dogged by miseries and misfortunes. The father lived a very violent criminal life that led to his death while serving his sentence in jail. The mother lead a promiscuous life and abandoned Esther before the father's death in 1997.

Esther was then left under the care of her old grandmother whose sons and daughters were either criminals or prostitutes. Some have succumbed to HIV/AIDS leading to their death while others are untraceable. They did not care what happened to Esther.

The grandmother depended heavily on relief food from Kitui Catholic church. The brutal hand of death still haunted Esther, as her grandmother passed away due to old age. This blurred all the hopes she had in life after losing the only person she had to turn to for comfort and protection. She led a desolate life, and sometimes engaged in street life in Kitui town. She respected no one and used vulgar language, the habit that followed her even after her rescue.

However, the gracious Lord God did not leave her to suffer alone. Her aunt came to her rescue and pleaded her case to Mully Children's Family (MCF). She was rescued in 2002 and began receiving the necessary care and protection in a loving home environment. She had had a very rugged schooling life, but once in the home she was enrolled in grade three, and is currently doing well in grade five.
