Ephantus is the last born in a family of fi ve children. He became destitute and in need of special care after both his parents died due to HIV/AIDS related illnesses in 1996. He was left with no one to provide for his needs.

He was rescued by Mully Children's Family (MCF) in 1998 from Nyeri, where he was living with an old grandmother who could not feed him due to poverty. As a result, Ephantus suffered from severe malnutrition and ulcers. He has, however, recovered and is doing well.

He is a quiet and soft spoken boy and although he was a school dropout at the time of his rescue, he is now in grade seven. He likes playing ball games and is active in Sunday School.
