Elvis is the fifth born in a family of eight children. The family used to reside in the Kipkaren slums of Eldoret town. Both parents were unemployed and used to rely on handouts from well wishers. Two children died in the family because the parents could not afford to take them to hospital for treatment. The rest of the children were beggars in Eldoret town. The little money they used to get would be taken home to purchase food for the family and pay the rent. The father was an alcoholic who did not care about the welfare of his family.

Before Elvis was rescued by Mully Children's Family (MCF) he was destitute and desperate because he did not have any of his basic needs provided by his parents. Elvis was severely malnutritioned, had skin diseases and lacked proper parental care and love before his rescue by MCF.

The situation became harder, up to the time Elvis was rescued. When he came to MCF, however, he was enrolled in nursery school together with his sister Helene. Elvis had never attended school before rehabilitation. He is currently in grade five and loves to play ball games.
