Felista's family was affected by land tribal clashes in 1992 so they moved to the slums of Eldoret-Langas. The father disappeared during this time, leaving the family alone. Life was difficult for Felista's mother, as she had no source of income to enable her to care for the needs of her five children.

Due to the land tribal clashes, all their personal property was destroyed and they were left with nothing. Life in the slums was very hard because there was no source of income. Felista, together with her older sister Margaret were later rescued by Mully Children's Family (MCF) and started accessing all basic needs, education and spiritual nourishment.

Felista had never attended school at the time of rescue. She is now in grade 7. Felista is a gifted hairdresser, especially in the African art of plaiting hair. She is also an active choir member.
