![]() | Obadiah is a poor boy whose parents live in the Kipsongo slums. The living conditions in the slum are pathetic, the family lived just by the grace of God. It was very hard for them to get basic needs in whatever form and from wherever source. The father abandoned them and went to an unknown destination to escape seeing the suffering faces of his children. The mother could not sustain the children as she was depending on her husband to survive. The children felt abandoned, and Obadiah left for the street at a very young age. He would start very early in the morning to beg or scavenge from the garbage. On many occasions he was sent away by the big boys who used to scavenge in that site. He had to wait until they were satisfied (or when they were not there) to try his luck. The young Obadiah was exposed to all kinds of suffering. Cold weather, rain, hunger and uncertainty were part of his life. It was during Mully Children's Family (MCF) annual rescue mission to the slums that the young emaciated Obadiah was spotted. The boy looked weak and in despair. It is hard to state how long he was on the street, but it was clear that he had been there long enough. He was rescued in 1997 and admitted to MCF. Obadiah started schooling at MCF schools and has progressed well. He is currently in grade six and is very hopeful to pursue his education beyond secondary school. He is an active boy in sports and is mastering the art of karate. In fact he has won several awards in MCF Karate. |
