Bettina is the second of three children born of a single mother. Bettina was left as an orphan at the age of 12 after her mother died of HIV/AIDS. She and her siblings had never known their father and now were left to fend for themselves. She was left under the care of her grandmother who died soon after.

Bettina lived a life of exploitation and insecurity. After completion of her primary school she was lured at the age of 12 by an individual who later employed her as a barmaid. She was molested, overworked and exposed to a life of uncertainty. She learnt of Mully Children's Family (MCF) through a neighbour who had to travel more than 200 km to plead for the rescue of Bettina.

She was rescued in 1997 by MCF and was immediately admitted into the MCF Home School where she began her classes. She has also continued to receive shelter, clothing, education, medical care and parental love and protection in the home. Since her rescue in 1997, Bettina says that MCF has made a difference in her entire life. She says "I had lost hope with no future at all but MCF came to my rescue and restored my hope".

Bettina had attended school irregularly due to lack of school fees. She however managed to complete her Standard Eight in 1996 and passed with excellent marks. After joining MCF, she managed to complete secondary school education and did very well. Currently, Bettina is a third year student at Maseno University pursuing a degree in communications.
