Elijah is an abonded orphan from a family of four. His mother separated from his father when he was very young. She remarried and had another two children with her second husband. Elijah's mother died in 1994 and life became very hard at the hand of his stepfather

The stepfather remarried but conditions didn't improve. They lived in a deplorable house and the children often slept outside on the grass. The father was unemployed and paid little attention to his family. Finally the stepmother committed suicide leaving the children motherless once again.

The children moved in with their grandmother, who preferred her biological grandchildren over Elijah. She denied Elijah food and forced him to work for the neighbours to earn some money for the family. His life of suffering forced him to steal food from his grandmother's kitchen whenever she went out. This however guaranteed him a beating when she returned because she would see food missing from the pot.

The grandmother eventually moved away and sent the children back to their father. He had by this time remarried a grade three drop-out whom he had impregnated. This young stepmother eventually banished them from her house.The orphans somehow made it to their aunt's house who contacted the Mully Children's Family. The children were rescued in 1997 and given a chance to lead a normal life devoid of suffering and uncertainty.

Elijah had not gone to school prior to his rescue. He was enrolled in Standard One and has progressed well. He hopes to become a lawyer someday in the future.
