![]() | Jennifer is the second last born in an orphaned family of five. Both parents passed away due to HIV/AIDS. Her father's sickness drained the little resources the family had acquired. They sold bits of the livestock to settle the medical bills incurred. The orphans had to support each other. The older siblings took care of the young ones. The relatives divided up most of the family's property. The paternal uncle threatened to disinherit them of the land and cattle. Jennifer, who was barely five years when she lost both her father and mother, felt the suffering the hardest. She couldn't believe that her mother was not coming back. The older siblings had to work for food doing menial jobs such as herding cattle, earning a paltry wage. They lacked proper and regular meals. Their suffering was so pronounced that the neighbours gave up supporting the orphans. They literally chased them away denying them the items they had come to borrow. The children's miseries were then reported to Mully Children's Family (MCF) through the area chief. They were rescued in January 1996. Jennifer was rescued along with her two elder sisters and a brother. On her rescue she was very tiny, emaciated, dirty and hungry. She is now in good health and a very jovial young lady. She is so thankful that MCF has rescued her from her suffering. Prior to her rescue, she had started schooling although with a lot of difficulty. She had to drop out when her parents died. She lost the hope of ever going back as the relatives were more interested in disinheriting them than assisting them in attending school. Jennifer sat for her Kenya Certificate of Primary Education in November 2000. She was then enrolled in MCF secondary school and has progressed well. She is currently in Form Four hoping to do well in her examinations. She is bright and possesses qualities of a promising future in her life. She hopes to pursue a course leading to a degree in law. |
