The GoalUltra Marathon cyclist, Arvid Loewen, will transport an African orphan 7000 km across Canada in June of 2005 to raise support for feeding, clothing and educating rescued street children at the Mully ChildrenÕs Family (MCF) orphanage in Kenya. |
The PlanArvid Loewen isn't your average guy. And together with his wife Ruth, he's come up with an out of the box plan for captivating media attention across this country. By using a special tandem bicycle, Arvid will alternate transporting one of three orphans who will sit in a custom design seat that won't require any pedaling. He'll take them coast to coast allowing the children to tell you and others first hand how their lives have been changed. |
The RouteArvid will cycle approximately 240 km per day. Our route will follow the TransCanada highway for much of the way. Each day we 'll be stopping in cities and towns along the way to share our passion for helping street children in Africa. Plus, the group of three African orphans will be able to tell you first hand what life is like at MCF. Keep checking our website for updates and schedule times when we wi ll be in your area! |
The DatesThe Spoke 2005 team will be leaving White Rock, British Columbia on May 28, 2005 and plan to arrive in Halifax, Nova Scotia on June 25. |

What's MCF?Mully Children's Family is a dynamic orphanage run by Charles Mulli. Charles was born in Kenya and was abandoned at the age of six. By making his way from home to home, begging for food, he managed to find a way to survive. Through hard work he became successful in business. But he never forgot what it meant to have nothing, and the growing struggle of street children in Kenya was always near his heart.Charles subsequently sold all he had to help destitute children. Together with his wife, Esther, and his eight children, they sold all their possessions and dedicated their lives to rescuing street children from the dangers of AIDS, drugs, prostitution, gangs, hunger and poverty. He is now a father to more than 700 children. At three locations in Kenya, namely, Eldorett, Ndalani and Yatta, he feeds, clothes, educates and loves those who were once outcasts but are now living new lives. |
Your SupportThe need at MCF orphanages is great. Imagine trying to raise a family of over 700 children! Not an easy task. And yet, with his entrepreneurial spirit, Charles Mulli has developed an agricultural program within the orphanage. Approximately half of the food grown is used for the children, the other half is sold to buy necessary items like clothing, educational materials. Your gift will be used to provide clean water, agricultural supplies and the necessary food, clothing, shelter and educational supplies as well as medical aid for those with HIV/AIDS. |

Why is Arvid doing this?A young boy walked along a sea shore scattered with hundreds of stranded starfish. One by one he proceeded to toss the desperate starfish back into the water. A passerby saw this and said: "There are so many. You will never be able to save them all. How does what you are doing matter?" The young boy threw another into the sea and said, "It matters to this one." |
